We really liked our boat trip in the backwaters of Alleppey. So after Varkala, we decided to go to another backwaters spot in Kerala, apparently with less tourists (if possible!).
We arrived in Kollam on Wednesday. We checked in in Ashtamudi Villas hotel recommended by our guide book in a quiet place 15 min ride from the city. Our bungalow is great with lake view and some hammocks are in front so that we enjoyed a first relaxing afternoon.
The next day, we woke up early to go to Munroe Island. After a 30 min ride, we took a 5 min and 13 Rs ferry to reach the island. We found a sign with boating advertisement and 5 min later the boat driver was here. After negotiations, we decided to take the 3 hours trip.
The trip was different from Alleppey one: much smaller canals, water was cleaner and we didn’t see even one tourist! We saw a great wildlife: many eagles, fishes, cormorant, birds...
We really enjoyed the boat, the peacefulness, and the beautiful landscapes.
